Your Opponent’s Eyes
01.20.10 |

They call the eyes the window to the soul for a reason. No matter how hard a poker player is on his exterior, it is difficult to control the eyes. This is a major reason why players even of great experience play with sunglasses on, to protect themselves. The windows lead into the mind.

Against players who have not blocked their eyes out, watching the way they move from hand to hand is important. Are they looking at you directly? Are they looking aside? A poker online player who will look at you directly is commonly known as in the moment of bluffing, as players who work to exert confidence are often weak. Though this can be inverted by the savvy player, I’m often surprised by how true it still is.

Sometimes nervous twitches will come out in eyes, showing further frustration, or adrenaline, in the moment of a hand. Sometimes the way the online poker opponent looks at you, in context of their previous actions, can open doors that were not there for you at all. Being open to the reading is almost just as good as getting a little peek into the method, watching from behind the back. The bigger your information file rolls, the more equipped you are to fight.
